Training Tools: A Common Sense Investment

From experienced runners to novice fitness walkers, investing in good shoes is common knowledge. Investing in a Runner's or Walker's Screening is common sense.

The benefit is "improved performance and addressing problems before they become injuries" says physical therapist, Phil Bevins. Board certified as both an orthopedic and sports clinical specialist, Bevins provides Runner's Screenings at Parkwest Therapy Center of Fort Sanders West.

The screening thoroughly evaluates flexibility, strength, gait, and biomechanics with instructions on corrective measures for problem areas. Clients frequently find themselves amazed at the conclusion of the gait analysis. Bevins has that 'magic eye' - the ability to detect even the slightest of gait deviations and quickly present the most efficient solution. For some, the result is increased performance. For many, the result is finally running without pain. For all, it is a very wise investment.

Physician referral is not required for this screening, which costs $93, and can be scheduled by calling (865) 531-5710. Covenant Health has many other fitness, sports medicine, and physical therapy programs. For information about any of these, call (865) 541-4500.
